Evergreen Announces its Plans for an Additional Far East - US East Coast Service
Evergreen will start a second all water weekly service between Asia an
d the Atlantic Coast of North America via the Panama Canal in July
The new route (AUE) will utilise nine vessels and will call at the por
ts of Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Coco Solo in Panama, New York and two addi
tional ports which will be either Baltimore or Norfolk and Charleston
or Savanah. A final decision on these port calls is expected shortly.
The service then calls again at Evergreen Caribbean hub facility, the
Colon Container Terminal in Coco Solo, Panama, before returning to the
Far East. The round-trip time is 63 days. The service will use existi
ng Evergreen tonnage: three 2728 Teu G-type vessels and six 1810 Teu L
-type ships.
The additional service comes 25 years after Evergreen started full con
tainer liner services in July 1975, which commenced with a Far East/US
East Coast route. That initial service is now part of Evergreen Eastb
ound and Westbound Round the World services.
Evergreen noted that the new service is in response to demands from sh
ippers in North America and the Far East who wanted additional all-wat
er services.
