MOL and Delmas to convert their Service between Far East and West Africa
After seven years of partnership within the WAFEX (West Africa and Far
East Express Service) joint service, Delmas, Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha and
Mitsui O.S.K. Line have decided, for reason of aparting themselves to
the evolving trade requirement, to discontinue their joint service at
the end of 1994.
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines have decided to convert their present semi-container
service to/from West Africa to the mordern full-container relay service
with Cape Town, South Africa. being transhipment hub.
The objectives of this renovation in MOL’s West Africa service are to
comply with customers’ needs in a very much containerised era to in-
crease frequency of the service, to offer more stable and punctual service
and to increase container space to respond to the ever-increasing
demand on MOL’s quality service.
In the meantime, Delmas will soon phase-in three additional vessels to
its present Delmas Bougainville, Delmas Joinville and Delmas Tourville.
The new vessels dedicated to this trade shall be the Francois Delmas,
the Thomas Delmas and the Vincent Delmas, which are 17,000 TDW combi-
vessels, twin deckers, fast runners (17 knots in service) and fully log
-fitted, being able to complete a full voyage from Japan via Pusan to
West Africa within 90 days.
Delmas - through its new WAFEX service - will then be able to maintain
a “first-class” direct service with two monthly sailings on an even
enlarged scope of destination.
