Gyonggi Pyeongtaek Port Corporation, a Korean Port, saw steady growing in container cargoes.
The port handled 51,824 TEU, climbing 30% compared with October 2010. This is the largest cargo volume that the port has ever handled, exceeding its April record of 47,218 TEU, an increase of 9.7%.
The accumulated volume up to October from January is 429,580 TEU, increasing 18% from the same period last year. The port is touted as the ideal port for trade with China owing to it being the shortest distance from Qingdao, Dalian and Tianjin, the so called ‘China offshore industry belt’, and it having reasonable entrance and clearance fees.
Mr. Jeong Ho Suh, CEO of Gyonggi Pyeongtaek Port Corporation, said, “It’s the first time that the container cargo volume has exceeded 50,000 TEU. Increasing volumes through port sales has been gradual.”
He added, “We’ll continue to devote all our might to maximize port efficiency and gain customers.”
