[ HJS and HMM ranked the world’s 20 major container lines ]
Hanjin Shipping Co.(HJS), and Hyundai Merchant Marine Co.,(HMM) ranked among
the world’s 20 major container lines as the 8th and the 19th position
respectively.
According to the KMI (Korea Maritime Institute), the tonnages held by
the world’s 20 major container lines 1,597,069TEUs and of that volume
HJS occupied 33 vessels of 77,398TEUs (2.1 percent)
while the HMM held 12 vessels of 40,359TEUs (1.1 percent).
Maersk Line, a Denish carrier is reported to hold the most number of
vessels with 92 vessels of 174,088TEUs and Sea-Land ranked the next po-
sition with 73 vessels of 144,140TEUs. NYK Line, the biggest shipping line
in Japan, occupied the 4th position with 75 vessels of 122,130TEUs
whilst Mitsui O. S. K. Lines placed the 5th position with 63 vessels
of 91,015TEUs.
These 20 container carriers were made up of 3 Japanese carrriers, 2
Korean, 2 American, 2 Taiwanese, 2 German, a Danish and a Dutch etc.
