Joint Cargo Committee Adds PRS to Institute Classification Clause

The London-based Joint Cargo committee(JCC) has amended its Institut
e Classification Clause(ICC) JC 97/058 to allow the Polish Register of
Shipping(PRS) to be included on all sailings on or after the 1st Sept
ember 1999.
The current Institute Classification Clause dated 1st August 1997 wa
s introduced following the suspension of the PRS from full membership
of the International Association of Classification Societies(IACS)
Full membership of IACS has, in the past, been necessary before clas
sification societies can be considered for inclusion on the Institute
Classification Clause.
Although IACS reinstated the PRS with associate membership in 1998, th
is fell short of the requirement for full membership, and consultation
has been taking place between the two since then. The JCC is now sati
sfied that the PRS fulfills all IACS qualitative requirements.
