An agreement for North Port Redevelopment compensation
The conflict caused by the difference over the compensation for the North Port Redevelopment between BPA and Port Worker? Union was settled through negotiation. As the two parties reach an agreement, the Redevelopment redevelopment which that will reshape Busan is expected to gain momentum. The port workers who will be affected due to the closure of North Port will transfer to New Port with advanced facilities.
The Chairman chairman of the Port Worker? Union, BPA president and administrator of Busan Regional Maritime Affaires Affairs and Port Office signed the agreement on May 15. The agreement contains measures to guarantee job security and compensation.
According to the agreement, a considerable number of workers among the 1,300 port worker workers who have worked at North Port will transfer to New Port and the others will be compensated depending on how long they have worked at the conventional port.
Especially, the workers transferring to New Port will have engineering jobs different from the previous simple labor and port operators will enjoy labor flexibility.
A BPA official said that the two parties reached the agreement on the ground grounds that the North Port Redevelopment should be implemented without any glitches. The North Port Redevelopment was designated as one of 10 Korean New Deal Projects to overcome the current economic hardship.
BPA president, Roh Ki-tae said that the agreement will serve as a catalyst in carrying out the Redevelopmentredevelopment, expressing his respect to the port workers?efforts and contribution made to advance Busan Port into the world? 5th largest port.
