Safmarine names its second megawhite, the Safmarine Komati
Safmarine has named its second post panamax container vessel, the Safmarine Komati.
The 6160 teu vessel joins her sister vessel, the Safmarine Kariba - named in April this year - as the two largest vessels in the white-hulled, Safmarine-owned, vessel fleet. The vessels are affectionately referred to as the ?afmarine MegaWhites?because of their size and gleaming white hulls.
The Safmarine Komati was named earlier this week by Liang Jingying, wife of Mr Zhang Minglei, General Manager and Owner, Wuhan Safe Jetta Material Flow Co Ltd in the company of guests from China, Japan, Taiwan, South Africa and Korea at the Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction Shipyard in Busan, Republic of Korea. Safmarine was honoured by the presence of Mr K.W. Park, President of Hanjin Heavy industries and Construction Co. Ltd at the naming celebrations.
Speaking at the event, Owner? Representative and Safmarine Asia Region Executive, Peter H Ehrenreich said: ?afmarine has experienced ten-fold growth in the Far East region in the last five years and it is therefore an honour to name the vessel in the presence of customers who have partnered us in that phenomenal growth.
The Safmarine Komati has a crew complement of 18 and senior crew present at the naming included the Master of the Safmarine Komati - Captain Christopher Smith, Chief Engineer Christopher Blenkhorn, Chief Officer Raimer Potgieter, Second Engineer Wojciech Rybinski and Electrical Engineer Jason Lee Deetlefs.
Both Safmarine Komati and her sister vessel, Safmarine Kariba, are deployed on the Europe - Middle East - India service (known as Safmarine? Prime Express service).<Korea Shipping Gazette>
