[ NOL Christened a New 5,000 TEU Containership ]

Neptune Orient Lines Ltd.(NOL) announced the christening of a new 5,00
0 TEU post-panamax containership in Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Jap
an on Monday, 15 December 1997.
The new 5,000 TEU post-panamax containership, “NOL IRIS”, is schedul
ed to be delivered in the first half of 1998.
NOL Iris is a fully cellular containership and is equipped with the la
stest maritime technology for efficient performance. This new post-pan
amax containership is capable of operating at a speed of 24.5 knots.
This newbuilding programme is part of the upgrading and renewal progra
mme of NOL’s fleet to enhance its competitive edge, improve its quali
ty service and the maritime environment.
