Shinsundae automated with state-of-the-art cranes
Shinsundae Container Terminal (PECT) operating Shinsundae Wharf in the North Port of Pusan is becoming an automated terminal by introducing advanced facilities and up-to-date operating systems to become more competitive.
On August 7, according to PECT, wharf 4, opened in February of this year, established five rail mounted gantry cranes (RMGC) in the hinterlands for the first time in South Korea, and started operations from the first of this month.
These automated cranes cost 3 billion won each. They work doing container stevedoring with remote handling assisted by 18 CCTVs per crane with three operator in the control office.
RMGCs are faster than general yard cranes. They can currently handle 25 containers per hour but will soon handle over 30.
