[ Mammoet JV Unveils New Concept Crane ]
A new concept in heavy lifting was recently presented by StoTra BV, a
joint venture between Mammoet Decalift International BV and DreiS Inve
stment.
A test lifting of the SSG 50 (StoTra Sliding Gantry) crane at Oasterho
ut was watched by a group of over 100 guests from the Netherlands and
abroad. A 2,000-ton pontoon ballasted with water was lifted and slewe
d.
Said Mammoet, the newly designed lifting/sliding system has several ad
vantages over conventional heavy-lift cranes. For instance, the mast
sections can be handled as 20-foot containers, while the other parts o
f the crane fit inside these mast units. Furthermore, containers fill
ed with sand or water can be used as counterweights.
All in all, said Mammoet, the SSG 50 can be transported as the equiva
lent of 50 TEUs. This makes transportation of the dismantled system fa
st and cost-effective, the heavy-lift specialist noted.
The SSG 50 is currently on its way to Bratislava in the Slovak Repubic
, where it will erect and position three 1,200-ton reactor vessels for
an oil crfinery.
