Roh visits PSA in Singapore
During a visit to Singapore as a state guest, President Moo-hyun Roh visited the PSA Corporation Oct. 23 to view the facilities on the terminal.
After hearing a brief explanation about the facilities, President Roh commented that excellent company such as the PSA have played a great role in leading Singapore as model of a logistics based country in East Asia. He also visited the terminal where Korean shipping companies such as Hanjin Shipping and Hyundai Merchant Marine are calling and encouraged workers in the terminal. Especially, President Roh took pictures with the PSA CEO, Grace Fu, the PSA Group CEO, Eddie Teh, and PSA chairman Stephan Lee with the Hanjin vessel ?asel?deployed in the terminal background.
The PSA was established as a government body in 1964 and came under private management in 1997, operating four terminals under a single operating system. It was the second largest cargo handler in 2002 with 16.8 million TEUs following Hong Kong. It employs 6,200 workers and connects to 600 ports in 124 countries world wide with 200 service routes. It also participated in terminal construction, management and operations. It is currently investigating the introduction of an e-commerce system.
