Pan Ocean settles wage increases
Pan Ocean union workers, which have been on strike since Sept. 15, went back to work Oct. 1 after the labor and management agreed on pay increases Sept. 30.
Labor and management agreed to a 6.9% pay increase pay in addition to a 50% increase to 150% in achievement, to keep ?no-work, no-pay? and to withdraw a lawsuit over illegal labor activities.
Workers went on strike after management presented a plan for pay increases in accordance with achievement, however labor asked for a fixed increase. Through a cooling?off period, both parties stepped back from their original positions and listened to each other. Then, management pulled back from its ?work first then negotiation?position to ?negotiation first then work? but keeping its ?pay increase in accordance with achievement?and ?no-work, no-pay?policies. Labor withdrew a lawsuit for illegal labor actions, and agreed to coordinate pay increases.
