Korea fails to negotiate shipbuilding with EU
An August 26 conference held in Seoul to solve the Korea-EU shipbuilding complication ended without any resolution on August 27.
The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy revealed neither party was able to agree although they did fix the lowest price for receiving a ship order before the conference. The EU decided if the conference ended with no conclusion that they would appeal to the WTO to allow subsidies for EU ship builders.
But there may be room for additional talks as the Korean Government accepted an EU suggestion that high-level talks be held September 16-18in Brussels.
"This conference broadened our mutual understanding, and for the September meeting, we are going with minimal expectations," said a Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy official.
