Mr. Park obtains doctoral degree from KMU

Mr. Hogeon Park, vice-president of Dongshin Marine Transport Co., Ltd which has undertaken Korean general agency of Malaysian Int’l Shipping Corporation Berhad(MISC), succeeded in taking a doctor’s degree from Korea Maritime University.
For a worker in the shipping industry to obtain a doctor’s degree is regarded as the first thing among the Korean shipping agencies. Mr. Park wrote a paper on the ‘Determinant and the Stabilization scheme of liner freight rates.’ After searching for the characteristics of modern liner shipping industry, Mr. Park analyzed on the factors which have influenced rates through the questionnaires. At last he wrote in the paper that supply-demand system and competitiveness amongst shipping companies have contributed to the rates rather than original costs.
Based on the analysis, he suggested to reform a more strong ‘Super Conference’ to solve structural instabilities in the maritime markets and to stabilize liner rates. Respective shipping company needs to maintain in cooperation each other to set up basic rates stabilization, to refrain from ordering new large vessels and to cope with inflexibility of vessel supplies, he asserted in the paper.
