OOCL Further Enhances Its Intra-Asia Network
Global container transportation company Orient Overseas Container Line
(OOCL) will extend its Kawasaki/Taiwan(KTX) to cover Indonesia and Sin
gapore, providing an unparalleded linkage between Japan and South East
Asian countries. The new service will be renamed Japan South East Asi
a Service(JSS) and will commence on 22 February 2000 with northbound s
ailing from Singapore. First southbound sailing will be on 23 February
2000 from Tokyo.
Four 1,200 TEU vessels with a sailing speed of 19knots will be deploye
d in the new fixed day weekly service offering fast and reliable cargo
delivery. The service is designed in such a way that it offers quick
and efficient connections at the hub ports of Kaohsiung, Hong Kong and
Singapore to OOCL’s network covering South East Asia, the Middle Eas
t and the Indian Sub-continent.
“With the introduction of the Japan South East Asia Service, our alre
ady extensive network in Japan will be further enhanced. The introduct
ion of our new service is in line with the recovering economies of Asi
an countries and the ever increasing demand of fast and efficient serv
ices to and from Japan,” said Mr Stephen Ng, Director of Intra-Asia T
rade of OOCL.
“The new service also offers the best transit times in many of the ro
utings. For example, from Osaka, 3 days to Kaohsiung and 10 days to Si
ngapore; from Jakarta, 12 days to Kawasaki/Yokoyama and 6 days to Hong
Kong” Ng adds.
OOCL is the only liner company offering service to and from Merak. “T
he new service will offer fast and efficient cargo transport to and fr
om the Banten area in Indonesia including Merak, Serang, Cilegon, Bojo
negara, Cigading and Anyer. In addition, importers and exporters of di
fferent products in that area including paper & pulp, wood & plywood,
rubber, chemicals, lubricant and resin will enjoy substantial cost sav
ings” Ng comments further.
The port rotation of the service will be Tokyo, Kawasaki, Chiba, Osaka
, Kobe, Kaohsiung, HongKong, Singapore, Merak, Jakarta, Singapore, Ho
ngKong, Kaohsiung, Tokyo.
OOCL’s intra-Asia network is one of the most extensive in the industr
y, offering services to more than 80 ports/terminals in 16 countries w
ithin Asia including 25 ports in Japan.
