Hyundai Heavy achieves total of 20 M bhp in medium-speed engines
Hyundai Heavy Industries has produced an aggregate of 20 million horsepower in 4-stroke engines in a record time of 19 years and 7 months.
Hyundai Heavy has produced 9,089 medium-speed engines since the production of the first medium-speed engine in August 1990. It has produced about 4,000 engines with 10 million bhp in three years after recording an accumulated 10 million bhp production of mid-sized marine engines in 2007.
Medium-speed engines ranging from 600 to 13,000 bhp are used as power generators on large vessels, propulsion systems in medium sized ships, and as the prime mover in on-ground power facilities.
Hyundai Heavy has a capacity of 1,800 units of medium-speed engine, with the regularly updated HiMSEN engine being the most popular based on its reliability and versatility.
Hyundai Heavy Industries accounts for a 25% market share of the 4-stoke marine engine market as of 2009.
It also has a capacity of 500 units of low-speed (2-stroke) engines and expects to record 100 million bhp of low-speed engine production by late September 2010.
