Hanjin Shipping opens Euromax Terminal in Rotterdam

Hanjin Shipping announced the opening of the Euromax Terminal in Rotterdam, the Netherlands that took place on September 5th, 2008.

The Euromax Terminal has been developed jointly by ECT (Europe Container Terminal) and the CKYH (Cosco Group, K-Line, Yang Ming Line and Hanjin Shipping) Alliance.

The terminal is located in Maasvlakte-1 with 4 berths in Phase-1 and will be expanded to Phase-4. A total of 2.3 million TEU can be handled in Phase-1 and the terminal will be able to handle 5.6 million TEU once Phase-4 is completed.

The Euromax terminal is located in the mouth of the Maas River and has many benefits: excellent access, state-of-the-art facilities with an on-dock rail, automatic handling system and hybrid equipment allowing not only lower costs and high efficiency but also eco-friendliness.

As the Port of Rotterdam is the largest port in Europe and the hub port connecting Benelux, Great Britain, Scandinavia and the North West of Germany, Hanjin Shipping expects that the opening of the Euromax Terminal in Rotterdam will enable the company to provide more stable services and a wider feeder network to its customers.

Mr. Young Min Kim, COO (Chief Operation Officer) of Hanjin Shipping, said of the terminal, the unique combination of strengths the Euromax Terminal has certainly provides a solid foundation to grow upon. With many ports around the world facing capacity issues, this new terminal will be able to avoid this concern by increasing efficiency and also allowing access to larger vessels.

Meanwhile, Hanjin Shipping, with another European dedicated terminal in Antwerpintroduced back in 2006, is studying the possibility of securing more dedicated terminals in a variety of logistics hubs such as in the Mediterranean, South East Asia, and other locations. <Korea Shipping Gazette>
