Hanjin Shipping orders five 10,000 TEU vessels
Hanjin Shipping ordered five 10,000 TEU class container vessels for the first time among domestic shipping companies.
On August 24, Hanjin Shipping contracted to have five of these container ships built by Samsung Heavy Industries. Attending the signing at the Hotel Shilla were senior executives from each company, including President Park Jeong Won from Hanjin Shipping and President Kim Jing Wan from SHI.
As a leading company in the international shipping market, Hanjin Shipping has demonstrated the value of oversized vessels and the trend towards larger vessels with this order.
The company will deploy these five vessels into transpacific routes in order of precedence from February 2010.
Meanwhile, Hanjin Shipping ordered eight 6,500 TEU class container vessels in 2003 and 2004 and deployed them into European routes in the second half of this year. In the second half of last year, Hanjin Shipping deployed 8,000 TEU class large container vessels into US routes.
