Inchon attracts sea and air cargoes worth 1.3 billion won
The Korea Customs Service announced August 30 that Inchon International Airport was effective in saving about 127.6 billion won thanks to one stop handling and clearance services.
The customs service has operated 24-hours to attract sea and air cargoes from August 1 at Inchon International Airport, and began using a customs warehouse to increase capacity for transfer cargoes on the 26th.
They opened the warehouse facility because the handling capacity of the airport is only 2.5 thousand tons a month but it actually handles 3 thousand tons monthly.
The Korea Customs Service expects that the airport will solve long waiting time problems for transfer cargoes out of the terminal thanks to the 24-hour clearance service and the new customs warehouse.
Meanwhile, the service simplified customs' transfer cargoes procedures from 6 steps to 2 steps from September of last year. Transportation times have since decreased from 3 days to one day.
The Korea Customs Service expects Inchon International Airport to handle 36,661 tons of cargoes this year and make profits of 127.6 billions won.
The Airport handled 26,284 tons of transfer cargoes in 2002, and increased to 33,547 tons last year. 21,386 tons of transfer cargoes were handled in the first half of this year, an increase of 27% as compared with the same period of last year.
Transfer cargoes handled at the Airport were transported to U.S. (50%), Europe (30%), Japan (14%) via Inchon (75%), Pyongtaek (16%) started from Qingdao (40%), and Shanghai (32%).
A customs officer working in the service said, "We will go on operating various support methods to attract more transfer cargoes."
