Korea-China trade increases
Between Korea and China, import and export container cargoes greatly increased during the first half of 2004.
According to the YSLC (Yellow Sea Liners Committee), container cargoes exported from Korea to China stood at 427,093 TEU during the first half, representing an increase of 17.86% compared with last year.
Among export cargoes, local cargoes increased 12.79% compared with the same period of last year, recording 280,171 TEU, while feeder cargoes increased 35.14% during the same period, recording 82,201 TEU.
Meanwhile, container cargoes imports from China to Korea increased 12.72% as compared with the same period of last year, totaling 534,284 TEU. Among those, local cargoes increased 14.08% or 309,340 TEU, while feeder cargoes increased 10.90% to 224,944 TEU.
By Chinese export port, Ningbo Port increased 46.07% handling 53,234 TEU, Shanghai Port was up 24.30% to 102,192 TEU. However, Shanghai Port feeder cargoes decreased by 1.14%. Nanzing Port and Lianyungang Port decreased handling cargoes by 15.46% and 0.51%.
For Chinese imports, Nanzing Port handled 6,210 TEU cargoes recording a 67.03% increase compared with the same period of last year. Particularly, the port increased imported feeder cargoes by 1033.13%. Lianyungang Port increased 31.55% handling 7,392 TEU. Dalian Port increased 24.33% and Qingdao Port increased 20.69%. But Shanghai Port decreased 6.20% due to feeder cargoes decreasing by 30.31% though it handled 82,746 TEU.
