Trading companies wouldn`t pay TMC
Trading companies decided not to pay the Transportation Management Charge (TMC) by inland transportation companies.
The Korea International Trade Association (KITA) said that around 20 shippers from electronics, tires, and chemical companies discussed facing logistic problems in the afternoon of Nov. 11.
According to KITA, trading companies decided not to pay the TMC because container inland carriers are double-dipping shippers for inland container transportation rates increases and the TMC. They also proclaimed that the container tax Pusan city charged is a unique burden unheard of elsewhere in the world, asking to abolish the system for local agencies. They also insisted that it is illegal to raise rates without negotiations with shippers regardless of items or volumes.
In the mean time, shippers agreed to not pay extra charges such as the container tax or TMC as profits didn`t improve even though export cargoes increased.
