Korea/China trade snowballing container cargoes in first half
Outbound trade from Korea to China showed increased cargoes in the first half this year. According to the Yellow Sea Liners?Committee, for the first six months this year, container cargoes from Korea to China increased by 18.82% to 362,372 TEU over the same period of last year.
Local cargoes skyrocketed by 30.83%, or 280,171 TEU, however, feeder cargoes decreased by 9.49% to 82,201 TEU.
Import cargoes during the first half also showed an increase of 10.81% to 473,987 TEU.
Local cargoes for import also rose by 28.60% to 271,150 TEU, however feeder cargoes decreased by 6.49% to 202,837 TEU.
In 2002, feeder cargoes in inbound trade, from China to Korea increased by 11.88%. Decreasing feeder cargoes were attributed to problems in feeder services in domestic ports such as Pusan and Gwangyang.
