BPA to penetrate East Asian market and to expand capacity as T/S hub through port cooperation.
Busan Port Authority (BPA) President Lim Ki-tack paid a visit to Myanmar Yangon on Feb. 2 and signed an memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Myanmar Port Authority (MPA) for mutual growth and cooperation.
With the opportunity of the President of Myanmar, Thein Sein's, visit to Busan Port in 2012, the MoU to exchange cooperation in the shipping port industry was discussed at the "2014 ASEAN-Republic of KOREA Commemorative Summit."
The MoU contains the following measures which BPA and MPA will implement jointly; port development, management, and operation, as well as cooperation, seminars, exchanging information and manpower regarding vitalization of Distripark.
In addition, a seminar on the organizational features and management, BPA operation measures were held right after the MoU was signed because Myanmar has enacted its New Port Authority Act which will change the port operations from a government-led management system to a 몆ublic port corporation?similar to Busan Port Authority.
President Lim said, "By signing the MoU with MPA, we will share our knowhow on port development, management, and operation with developing countries. Furthermore, BPA plans to enter into the East Asian market to establish the network and develop Busan Port, a prestigious port, by expanding port capacity as a transshipment hub port."
