Busan Port Authorities (BPA) announced CSCL's 14,100 TEU vessel, the "Uranus", called at Korea Express Busan Container Terminal (KBCT) in Busan on March 14.
The world's biggest vessel is 352 m long,23 m high, and 51.2 m wide, which is almost equal to 3 soccer stadiums. The "Uranus" is bigger than the "Alexandra" of 14,036 TEU, which is the biggest ship to have entered the port before the "Uranus". The "Uranus" was built by Samsung Heavy Industries.
Meanwhile, the number of super-size vessels (over 100,000 t) that have called at Busan Port has gradually increased since 2009 with 15 callings, 2010 with 40 callings, and 127 callings last year. The 13,500 TEU vessel, the "Umm salal", called at the port on February 20.
BPA has exempted port charges - including port entry-depart fees, anchorage dues, etc. - for vessels over 100,000 t since 2010. < 김보람 기자 brkim@ksg.co.kr >
