DP World Foundation, the charitable arm of global supply chain solutions company DP World, has pledged US$45,000 to fund relief works in communities impacted by Typhoon Yagi, which hit the country in September this year.
Over the next few months, in partnership with local charity Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation, funds will be used to provide emergency relief and help families recover from the impacts of the storm, and the floods and landslides it caused. Support will include the delivery of essential items such as food and household equipment and the provision of accommodation and relocation assistance to impacted communities. It will also defray the cost of books and other learning materials to ensure children can return to school with adequate resources.
Additionally, the aid will support broader efforts to rebuild homes and help affected families get back on their feet following Typhoon Yagi, which was the most powerful typhoon to hit Vietnam in three decades. This initiative is part of DP World Foundation's broader commitment to support communities in need, reinforcing its ongoing work in Asia and other regions. To further strengthen the local community response, employees from DP World’s Vietnam office have also made donations in their personal capacities and will be mobilised to support volunteering activities with Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation. This initiative aligns with DP World Foundation's goal of building resilient communities in response to natural disasters, reflecting DP World's broader sustainability mission.
Glen Hilton, CEO & Managing Director, Asia Pacific, DP World said, “DP World and the DP World Foundation’s mission is to uplift communities in places where we do business, especially during times of crisis. Typhoon Yagi has had an unfathomable impact on people and families, particularly in Vietnam. With this donation and our partnership with Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation, we want to do our part in providing critical aid and bolstering recovery initiatives, as part of our long-term commitment as a partner to communities in Vietnam.” Do Duy Vi, co-CEO of Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation said: “We are grateful for the support from DP World and the DP World Foundation, which will make a significant difference in the lives of those affected by this typhoon. In addition to delivering critical emergency aid, by rebuilding homes and ensuring children can return to school, this partnership will also help families recover in the long term and increase their resilience.”
