[ Global Player at the Olympic Games ]
When it comes to major events such as the Olympic Games, only logistic
and forwarding companies with a worldwide presence are in a position
to provide all the global services required by the customer as a one-s
top-shop. Gunter Muller, member of the board of Stinnes subsidiary Sch
enker with responsibility for international air and sea freight, stres
sed this point on the occasion of the Frankfurt Air Freight Days.
The Australian subsidiary of the Schenker Group, Schenker Internationa
l(Australia)PTY.LTD. is the Official Forwarder(Freight) for the Olympi
c Games 2000 in Sydney. Schenker International Deutschland Gmbh is the
Official Co-Partner of the Stiftung Deutsche Sporthilfe which promote
s German sports and athletes. During a panel discussion, Gunter Muller
explained that the unified efficiency of the schenker Group, shich ha
s over 1,000 offices, all of which are linked to each other, along wit
h extensive human resources and the financial power of a world concern
, supports these country organizations to the full. This in return gua
rantees the customer access to a well-tried logistics infrastructure a
nd to state-of-the-art IT equipment. Large coustomers therefore regard
the Stinnes subsidiary Schenker as being an adequate provider of the
srvices they require for their global activities. At the same time, th
e entreprenenurial management policies adopted at the subsidiaries all
ows Schenker to remain close to the customer and gives the company a p
resence in the market similar to that of regional medium-sized competi
tiors. Challenges such as the Oympic Games can therefore only be maste
red by a globa player concluded Muller. Schenker was also the Official
Forwarder for the Oympic Games in 1972 in Munich.
