Korea Express (KOREX) hit the water for the first time at a terminal at the Seoul-Incheon (Gyoung-In) Canal in Gimpo, west of Seoul, December 4, 2011. Korex operates its Gimpo-Jeju weekly service with the ‘Yanase’ deployed in the route.
The 2,000 ton freight vessel ‘Yanase’, loaded with 900 tons of mineral water, called at the terminal, while registering its name first on the list of ‘Ara Waterway’ users. All cargo in the vessel was unloaded December 6 when it returned to JeJu Island.
A representative from Korex said, “The service is just a test-drive; we’re trying to turn it into a part of our normal operations by early 2012.”
Meanwhile, K-Water announced Daewoo Logistics will operate 3 car carriers sailing to Vladivostok on December 20~25. < 김보람 기자 brkim@ksg.co.kr >
