LB port container volumes continue uptrend
The Port of Long Beach continued to post modest gains in container cargo volume for the year with a 6.6 percent overall volume increase in June compared to a year ago. Imports were up 3.5 percent while exports rose by 9 percent compared to June 2010.
Port terminals handled 554,269 TEU last month compared to 520,100 TEU in June of last year. Import containers accounted for 271,113 TEU compared to 262,053 TEU in the same period last year and export containers reached 126,588 TEU compared to 116,112 TEU in June 2010. Empty container moves were up 10.3 percent to 156,568 TEU. Most empty containers are bound overseas for refilling.
In the calendar year to date, overall container moves at the port are up 6.2 percent. Imports are up 6 percent, and exports are up 4 percent. <Korea Shipping Gazette>
