Busan Port to mark largest trade volume since November last year
The container trade volume of Busan Port marked a 9-month high since November last year.
BPA said on September 23, that the container throughput at Busan Port in August stood at 1,015,000 TEU (import 458,000, export 557,000), a 1% increase from July. As the global economies show a glimpse of recovery, the trade volume of Busan Port exceeded the one million mark for two consecutive months.
The total accumulated trade volume January to August stood at 7,640.000 TEU, a 16.8% decrease from the same period of last year import/export of 4,190,000 TEU (-19.9%) and transshipment cargo of 3,440,000 TEU (-12.8%).
By terminal, Shinsundae Terminal took first place in trade volume and the in increase rate, handling 1,650,000 TEU, followed by Gamman Terminal with 1,320,000 TEU and Jasungdae Terminal with 1,220,000 TEU.
On the other hand, Dubai Port the 6th largest port, following the 5th largest port, Busan Port, handled 7,330,000 TEU. Busan Port is expected to maintain its status as the world 5th largest port.
Is the year comes to the end, the throughput at Busan Port is expected to gain upward momentum and BPA will embark on active target marketing next month to keep the momentum alive,said an official at BPA. <Korea Shipping Gazette>
