[ OOCL Launches Scan-Baltic Express Service ]
Orient Overseas Container Line(OOCL) announced recently that the new S
can-Baltic Express service will be launched on April 20. the weekly fi
xed day service will be calling at Hamburg, Rotterdam, Thames Port, St
Petersburg, Helsinki, Aarhus, and back to Hamburg.
Two dedicated vessels, the OOCL Nevskiy and OOCL Neva will be deployed
in the service linking major ports in the Baltic with OOCL’s global
network in Europe, North America, Middle East and Asia, and in particu
lar China. The company is now serving 5 ports in China through these p
orts, containers will be delivered intermodally to their final destina
tions by dedicated train, barge or truck services.
Jim Poon, Chairman and Managing Director of OOCL Europe said “With th
e recent economic changes in Russia, it is fast becoming a major tradi
ng centre of the region and we believe it is a market of great potenti
al”
“The service will shorten the door-to-door transit times to/from St P
etersburg and offer very competitive service from scandianavia with a
sailing ex Aarhus on Friday evening. This service will also become a v
ital link to our Intra-Europe trade which will switch cargoes onto the
sea from congested European highways. This is OOCL’s response to the
growing environmental concerns,” Poon adds.
Recently elected “Shipping Line of the Year” by a renowned British p
ublication, the International Freighting Weekly(IFW), and a panel of l
ogistics experts, OOCL continues in 1998 where it has left off.....on
