[ Maersk/Sea-Land Announce details of New Service ]

Maersk Line and Sea-Land Service have released details of previously a
nnounced service changes for the Pacific and Middle East service.
Both parties state that these service changes represent a balanced app
roach to the current market situation and are based on financial prude
nce and a focus on market opportunities. The service re-alignment is d
esigned to meet increased demand for Central and Southeast asian expor
ts, including theprovision of aan additional weekly line-haul service
from Hong Kong to California.
Five trans-Pacific and two all-water services will now be available to
Sea-Land and Maersk customers.
The TP5 and the Far East/Middle East(AMX) service will be combined, pr
oviding improved direct service to/from the Middle East and Indian Sub
continet and an additional direct service from Hong Kong to Long Beach
. Shippers of refrigerated cargoes also will see improved service from
California to Central and Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
The present Suez Express/TP6 will gain a westbound call in Tacoma and
westbound services will be enhanced from the Pacific Northwest to Nort
h and Central Asia. Shippers who used the westbound TP4 service, which
will be discontinued in April, will find improved transit times on th
e new TP6 service, such as two days faster transit to Japan and Hong K
ong via the Tacoma gateway.
In addition, a new direct port call at Port Klang, Malaysia, has been
added in both directions.

ndian subcontinent service. New rotations will be phased-in as of late
March.
