U.S. opens Pusan office for CSI.
U.S. established an organization to fight against terrorism at Pusan Port to search out dangerous marine containers from entering the country.
The U.S. Embassy in Seoul held an opening ceremony for the Container Security Initiative (CSI), under the U.S. Customs Service, with Douglas Browning, vice-director of U.S. Customs, officials from Korean Customs and U.S. Embassy staff in attendance at the 8th wharf in Pusan Port on August 13.
According to the U.S. Customs Service, the opening of the Pusan office is to disclose potential problems promptly such as the danger of terrorism from ports and governments in countries that transport containers to the U.S.
The U.S. Embassy said, "terrorism by using marine containers could seriously shock the world's trade system," and "the Pusan office will closely investigate suspicious containers destined for the U.S."
Meanwhile, the U.S. has been asking governments in pertinent countries to participate together by choosing 20 top ports in the world for CSI, and has another plan to spread out to other ports.
