North American bound containers wane by 8.8%
North American bound cargoes declined in November. Industry sources s
aid that export container cargoes recorded a total of 41,820 TEU for t
he month of November, a decrease of 8.8% from October.
These declines were accounted for by decreases in all water and Central
American cargoes. Hanjin Shipping took the lion's share, 21.02%
(8,789 TEU). Hyundai Merchant Marine followed with 16.26% of the total
(6,799 TEU), and Choyang Line shared 6.25%.
The three big domestic shipping lines held nearly half (43.52%) of th
e total. Zim line, an Israeli shipping line, took 8.76% of whole cargo
es or 3,663 TEU, APL handled 8.16% share or 3,413 TEU, and Maersk-Seal
and grabbed 7.28% or 3,043 TEU.
