The Ocean Exchange introduced the two winners of the Ocean Exchange 2014 awards. Each award includes a $100,000 prize from worldwide sponsors Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. and Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL).
This year's $100,000 Gulfstream Navigator Award 2014 was given to Okeanos Technology's Water Chip Desalination at the Speed of Light, a solid-state platform that uses a membrane free, micro-scale process to desalinate water with radical energy efficiency.
Advancing a commercially viable shipping and logistics solution for increased sustainability through zero-emissions, transport on land and at sea, the WWL Orcelle?Award of 2014 and $100,000 has been awarded to Deep Green from Minesto AB of Sweden. Deep Green is an innovative solution to generate energy from low velocity water currents.
"We are excited to honor a worthy recipient and an innovative concept whose ideas and implementation will help take us one step closer to our vision of a zero-emissions future in the field of marine transport and logistics," says Ray Fitzgerald, President of Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics Americas.
Both solutions reduce the use of natural resources and waste and increase productivity and economic well-being.
