St. Petersburg Port's Container Terminal |
Handling of containerized import/export at CJSC Container Terminal Saint Petersburg (CTSPb) in the first half of 2012 jumped by three times from a year earlier to 128,540 TEU, a UCLH press release said.
Exports increased by 3.7 times to 62,900 TEU, while imports surged by 5.3 times to 65,600 TEU. During the reporting period, CTSPb handled 167 ships.
"The growth of freight traffic was driven by boosted container handling, as well as improving the terminal’s service quality,” the company said. The opening of the Baltic Customs post in the terminal’s territory and the introduction of electronic documents allowed the company to simplify container shipments procedures.
In addition, in March 2012 the company put into operation new handling equipment: 13 new tractor-trailer trucks and roll-trailers. In May, the company opened an additional yard for storing 3,000 TEU of empty containers.
Container Terminal St. Petersburg is a new complex for the transshipment of containerized cargo on the Fourth Cargo Area of Big Port St. Petersburg encompassing 32 ha with a capacity of 500,000 TEU. The facility specializes in handling all types of import and export containers, including reefers.
The terminal is one of the key projects of the development program of the UCL Port, a stevedore division of UCL Holding, which includes Sea Port St. Petersburg and Universal Handling Terminal in northwestern Russia, and the ports of Tuapse and Taganrog in the south. < Korea Shipping Gazette >
