[ Rising logistics cost posing a big burden to Korean Shippers ]
It is known that Korean shippers had to effect a quite considerable pa
yment as logistics cost which accounted for nearly 16 percent out of l
ast year’s total exports.
According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, total logisti
cs cost paid by domestic export trader amounted to 13,280 million doll
ars, which occupies 16.1 percent of total export turnover of 82,400 mi
llion dollars last year. Furthermore, this logistics cost ‘s portion
continues to increase every year, in view of the fact that its portion
out of total export was increased by 1.3 percent last year following
14.8 percent rise in 1991 over the previous year.
And it was analyzed that last year, most local shippers had to pay aro
und 2.5 percent of their total sales output as a domestic transportati
on costs from the factory up to the loading port or bonded warehouse a
nd at the same time they paid around 5.1 percent as an international t
ransportation costs through air and sea which means that local and int
ernational transportation costs accounted for nearly half of the total
logistics cost in export. In the meanwhile, most shippers pointed out
that the greatest hindrance in their seaborne transportation has hith
erto been a timely loading and likewise nearly 80 percent of shippers
have experienced quite considerable delays in timely loading even in c
ase of inland transportation.
