[ Textainer Group Announces Expansion of Specials Fleet ]

The Textainer Group recently disclosed plans to significantly expand
its fleet of Flatrack and Opentop containers. Textainer embarked on
an aggressive purchasing plan for 40 FT Flatracks in 1995, and to
date has taken delivery of over 1,000 of these units that are
collapsible, flush folding and of the Clive-Smith design. John
Maccarone, President and CEO of Textainer Epuipment Management, feels
the recent acquisition fo TOL by Transamerica has created an
opportunity for another reliable supplier of Flatracks and Opentops.
During the fourth quarter of 1996, Textainer purchased 300 new 20 FT
Opentops, and another 600 40FT Flatracks have been ordered for 1997.
In addition, the company will add both 40FT Opentops and 20FT
Flatracks to its fleet in the near term. Overall, Textainer plans
significant purchases of both Flatracks and Opentops, in the years
ahead. Robert D. Pedersen, Senior Vice President of Marketing for
Textainer Equipment Management, stated that the expansion of
Textainer’s specials fleet is customer driven: “Our customers want
to be able to choose from more than one of two lessors when they need
to on-hire specials.”
Textainer is the third largest leasing company in the world for dry
freight containers with a fleet of more than 425,000 TEUs.
