Singamman wharf rapidly returns to normalcy
Pusan Port wharf operation suffered from typhoon Maemi but is returning to normal more rapidly than originally expected.
According to the KCTA (Korea Container Terminal Authority), Singamman wharf had operational difficulties because of 6 C/Cs (Container Cranes) being heavily damaged. It has been working 4 cranes with 2 cranes setup earlier than scheduled and by setting up one additional crane that became operational December 30, 2003. At Singamman wharf, 2 berths returned to normal, putting Pusan Port as a whole at 75% pre-typhoon capacity.
Another 2 cranes will be installed by MHI (Mitsubishi Heavy Industries) by February 28 and March 20. The KCTA advanced the dates for normal operation by 6 months due to the success of its rapid recovery plan.
