Hanjin Shipping records the highest container charge in 8 years
The container charge index at Hanjin Shipping has risen 4 months consecutively and recorded its highest value in 8 years.
Hanjin Shipping announced on August 18 that the average container charge index last month raised by 33.3% to 127.8 as compared with the same period of last year and went up by 1.8% as compared with the previous month.
According to Hanjin Shipping, this is the highest container charge (128.2) since August, 1995. The reason for the increases had been attributed to international shipping company groups increasing a transportation charges one after another while the amount of cargoes have also rapidly increased recently.
The container charge index at Hanjin Shipping is the divided income from all containers by all shipment amounts. The index is calculated every month with January, 1990 being the 100 level benchmark.
