Inchon pushes to build commercial maritime base for North Korea
Inchon Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries revealed October 25 that it has a long-term development plan focusing on constructing a commercial maritime base for North Korea in Inchon by 2006.
By this plan, the Inchon agency will put up 3.6 billion won for the project by 2006 to build a dedicated berth for North Korea, transfer center and logistic complex for North Korean cargoes in the rear grounds.
In addition, Inchon is thinking about connecting Inchon Port with Nampo, Songlim and Shinuijoo and building a port logistic complex in the Shinuijoo Economic Area.
An official from the Inchon agency said that cargoes amounts bound for North Korea hit first place in port nationwide, handling 161,000 tons of combined import and export cargoes. Inchon will make itself the hub for trade with North Korea through the help of the new maritime base, he added.
