SK Shipping chosen for China LNG project
SK shipping was chosen as one of several candidates for the Guangdong LNG project.
According to several shipping companies on January 11, China chose total 6 companies as candidates for this project including COSCO, SK Shipping, MOL and Exmar.
SK shipping said that the Chinese government asked for six shipping companies to participate in the bidding. This project is important because it will decide who is going to succeed in entering China first.
The bid winner will take charge of carrying out this project, which consists of 70% from China and 30% from overseas shipping company.
If this project is complete, it will carry 3 million tons of LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) a year, expanding to 5 million tons by 2008.
SK shipping said that they were also invited to bid on an LNG transportation project in Qatar worth over 100 million dollars.
An official at SK Shipping said, “We are the only domestic company bidding on the project.”
