Tokyo to send port promoters to Seoul
A 14-member delegation from the Port of Tokyo will arrive in Seoul, Th
ursday, November 2, to promote utilization of the Tokyo metropolitan p
ort by Korean shipping companies and shippers. The Tokyo Metropolitan
Port Trade Mission, headed by Tetsuya Saito, Director General of the B
ureau of Port and Harbor of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, will be
joined by 14 Japanese public, industry and trade representatives. The
mission will be in town for three days to call on shipping companies
and shippers, having major objectives in familiarizing the Korean ship
ping industry with the advantages in using the Port of Tokyo for expan
ding trade with Japan.
The gateway to Japan? largest metropolitan area, the Port of Tokyo is
favorably located for direct access with 40 million affluent Japanese
consumers or one-third of the national population, within a radius of
100km.
The port is also convenient for reaching other ports of Japan because
of well - developed highway, rail and coastal shipping networks spread
ing from the Japanese capital city, Tokyo. Despite its century-long ex
istence as a domestic port, the Port of Tokyo has been established as
an international port only for 59 years. But the visiting delegation i
s proud to point out its advanced cargo handling facilities, especiall
y container handling terminals.
