Busan Port reborn into a home port for cruise ships
Busan Port, the 5th largest container port in the world, is going to be reborn into a home port for world class cruise ships. Busan Port Authority (BPA) said that the Legend of RCI had called at Busan Port for the first time on April 2nd.
A home port is the place of departure and arrival of ships, with enormous economic ripple effects coming along. The Legen has various convenient facilities such as swimming pools, casinos and shopping centers.
It can accommodate 2,000 passengers and 700 attendants. On the day, the ship voyaging Japan and China for 7 nights and 8 days departed with about 500 Korean passengers on board.
BPA installed additional luggage scanner and information centers to provide more convenient services. On the other hand, BPA held a welcoming ceremony in which a memorial tablet was given to the captain and traditional Korean dances were performed.
An official at BPA said that BPA would do its best to attract more cruise ships and improve relevant services in order to help the local economy. Seventy eight cruise ships are expected to visit Busan and of them twenty-eight call at Busan Port as a home port.
