[ The Number of Agent & Forwarder to Show Steep Growth ]
The number of Korean shipping agents and sea forwarders has shown a re
markable increase.
KMPA said recently that the number of shipping agents amounted to 238
companies at present, up 183 percent as compared to the number of 1987
, when the goverment had taken an action to lift the barrier of shipping
agent business to some extents and the number of sea forwarders reached
339 companies, increased by 127 percent over the same period of 1987.
This growth explains the constraint for shipping agency and sea forwar-
ding business has been relaxed by the government and the agent and for-
warders’ guideline for registration has been deregulated.
But there are also some school of thoughts that this could drive the
current shipping agents and sea forwarders into fierce competition.
