Port of Los Angeles receives award for intermodal transportation
The Port of Los Angeles received a 2003 Excellence in Transportation Award for the Alameda Corridor project from the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).
The award was presented jointly to the Port of Los Angeles, Port of Long Beach, Alameda Corridor Transportation Authority and Caltran's District 7, which represents Los Angeles and Ventura Counties.
Recognized as the ?scars?of California's transportation industry, the 16th annual awards feature paramount accomplishments in the fields of transportation, environmental, engineering and community interests. The Alameda Corridor, a 20-mile railroad express line that connects the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach to the transcontinental rail network east of downtown Los Angeles, opened in April 2002.
?he Alameda Corridor speeds cargo delivery, reduces air emissions and increases efficiency to meet a growing consumer market," said Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Larry Keller. "The Port is proud to be part of such a tremendous project. To be hailed as an excellent achievement by Caltrans is icing on the cake. We thank them sincerely.?
The competition salutes projects that tackle California transportation challenges. Vying for the award were more than 100 entries from state and local government agencies, design firms and contractors throughout California.
