HMM improves logistic system
Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) expects to save about half a billion won annually with significant improvements to its materials logistics system.
HMM set up a materials incoming and outgoing electronic system in a bonded warehouse in the Yong-Dang inland logistic base recently, and upgraded the logistic system. They further increased efficiencies by out-sourcing supplies (food, water, and other operational supplies, for both distributors and manufacturers) for ships that call at domestic ports by selecting a single service company.
Until now, HMM has allowed many ship supply companies to service vessels.
This has largely been a waste of resources for HMM as they would have to fix supply schedules and check in on each supply company.
In addition, manufacturers have suffered needless delays during demurrage or other vessel delays.
According to the new logistic system improvements, all materials for ships will be delivered to a bonded warehouse on the Yong-Dang inland logistic base before callings, then service companies will enter supplies into the incoming and outgoing electronic system after supply inspections. Finally, the new system should make possible a 'One-Stop-Service' so that supplies for ships are all delivered simultaneously.
