Sokcho port to accept 38,000-ton vessels
The Port of Sokcho will be able to facilitate 38,000-ton vessels, up from 18,000-tons, by the end of this year.
Dongdae Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries said March 5th that a wharf to accommodate 20,000-ton sightseeing vessels, under construction near the southern breakwater since November 2000, is 85% complete.
Filling in the breakwater occupied the largest portion of wharf construction, and the only portion remaining is to build the wharf itself and dredge it for 20,000-ton sightseeing vessels.
The whole construction process is expected to be completed by December, 2002.
Along with this new sightseeing wharf, the Port of Sokcho will to expand its simultaneous capacity to seven 38,000-ton vessels from six 18,000-ton vessels.
The Port of Sokcho will serve Solbong?ho, a Mt. Kumgang ferry and Dongchun Ferry, a passenger ferry for Mt. Paekdu.
