Inchon airport repeals nighttime special cargoes rates
The temporary inaugural surcharge for special cargoes (special consignment cargoes) through Inchon International Airport will be repealed from July and the 24-hour clearance system will be possible from the second half of this year.
The Inchon International Airport customhouse said that they would repeal the temporary surcharge for special cargoes that enter the port between 6 p.m and 9 p.m. During that time, customs isn't on duty.
The surcharge has mainly been imposed on special cargoes that come at night, so special cargo forwarding companies had to wait until the following morning to avoid the surcharge.
Special cargo forwarding companies have paid fees of 1.5 billion won every year since 2001. Korean Customs at Inchon International Airport expects logistics cost reductions of 3.0 billion won if the surcharge is abolished.
Customs plans to build a 24-hour clearance system and increase the number of officers who deal with special cargoes at night.
Recently, Customs spoke with DHL, FedEx, UPS, TNT and other special cargo companies and explained the reformations of the special cargo system.
