Port of Incheon (Incheon Port Authority) recently announced it is now handling 2 million TEU.
In 1974, Port of Incheon opened as Korea’s first container port. In 2005, Port of Incheon handled 1 million TEU. Among Korean ports handling 2 million TEU, the first was Busan port and the second was Gwangyang port.
December 11, Port of Incheon held a ‘To achieve 2 million TEU ceremony’. The ceremony was attended by Ministry of Ocean and Fisheries (MOF) Minister Jun-suk Yoon, the mayor of Incheon, Young-gil Song, and many clients. Chun-sun Kim, Port of Incheon president, said, “We are very happy to pass the target. I’d say thanks to all clients.”
Through handling of 2 million TEU, the Port of Incheon has become a global port, and is positioned well to become a hub port in the Yellow Sea area. In 2015, Port of Incheon plans to open a new Incheon port. < 이명지 기자 mjlee@ksg.co.kr >
