Minister Yun Jin Suk |
After the Korean Ministry of Ocean and Fisheries (MOF) official launched on March 22nd, Yun Jinsuk received an appointment as the new MOF Minister starting April 17th.
Since March 6th, 2008, the MOF and the Korean Ministry of Construction & Transportation (MCT), formerly the Ministry of Land Infrastructure Transport (MLIT) were united as the Korean Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs (MLTM). After 5 years, however, MLIT was separated again into MOF and MLIT. Now the Minister of MLIT is Seo Seunghwan.
The newly-appointed Minister Yun's inauguration ceremony took place at the Sejong Government Complex.
Minister Yun said at the ceremony, "I have tremendous responsibilities as head to revive the MOF in front of the nation and for the history of Korea. The new MOF will do its utmost to fulfill a 'creative economy centered around employment', the priority of the current government, through seeking a growth driver in the oceans." She proceeded to announce operational plans and policies for MOF; people-centered, open, and a future-oriented administration.
Meanwhile some difficult adjustments are expected for the transition of the system under Minister Yun Jinsuk. At the confirmation hearing held before Minister Yun was appointed, Minister Yun made a lot of mistakes when she answered. Since then, the public, ruling party and the opposition party have expressed disappointment over the talent controversy. The public has called for her resignation, however, her appointment as MOF Minister has been confirmed. < 김보람 기자 brkim@ksg.co.kr >
